This morning, I was caught by 2 headlines on the same page: "Baby Starves as parents get drunk (malaysia) and "HFMD kills 18 kids in China".These days, such headlines are "head turners" for me. It catches my attention before any of the big news (other than we have another DPM now...).
I agree that it has to do with my stage in life too where as a parent, I became more intuned to news about children suffering or families struggling. When I was asked this question at work sometime ago: "What do you think would be one of the most important work for us to do?", I shared about creatively designing help and support for children whose parents were retrenched or faced financial difficulties in the coming difficult times.
I wouldn't say I have the answers to the world's problems nor even in our little island. But I always have this "nagging" idea in my head. One of those (not many) verses that I remembered. For those who are blessed with more, they are expected more as well.
Well, I am definitely not loaded like the donors for the new Community Foundation of Singapore. But at least I have some time in my hands and enough dough to stay working part-time comfortably. (at least for now).
Then the big decision on what best to do with my time. After trying out stay-at-home mum for one month during my no pay leave in Feb, I realised I do like doing the household stuff (other than cleaning which I just can't tahan). But I missed the company of colleagues and most importantly the opportunity to sit down and crack brains to think of new initiatives to improve lives of the less fortunate community. It's fast becoming my second home (since the office is less than 2 km from my place) where we build dreams of a different kind together.
Anyway, back to my little nest. Here are some photos to share with my JMs of little Eliza who has just recovered from mild chicken pox. Do keep those posts "alive' :)
